![]() Mostly because he’s able to resist Freddy in the dreamworld due to his fearless nature. However, when he fights Freddy, he actually does a lot better. Ash is his usual badass and is able to put a decent fight against Jason but an industructable zombie who can use his barehand as a stabbing weapon is too much for Ash to handle and he gets tossed around for his troubles. It’s also cool to see him fight Freddy & Jason, whom he each battles one on one before the climax where all three fight. It’s just funny to see a character like Ash interact with people like this and the comic takes full advantage of it. Rather than be scared, he simply starts beating the crap out of the kid. It’s the classic set up for a good old fashion fake out but this is Ash we are talking about. ![]() One of my favorite bits is when one of the teenagers tries to pull a prank on Ash by dressing up as Jason and attempting to scare him. It was a interesting idea to have Freddy want to get his hands on the Necronomicon and how they get Ash to Crystal Lake is great because it allows him to interact with the typical dumba** teenagers who make up the Horror Movie fodder in the Friday & Nightmare films. The comic shares a lot of DNA with Freddy vs Jason in how it gets the two slashers to fight but makes a lot of smart moves in getting Ash in on the action as well. He of course comes into conflict with Jason and later Freddy and before long, it becomes an all out war when Freddy turns on Jason and the three go head to head. As all this is going on, Ash is called to the local S-Mart to whip some of the younger employees into shape while also searching for the Necronaumican himself. He discovers that the book is actually somewhere near Crystal Lake so he once again revives Jason and convinces him to obtain the book for him. The comic takes place sometime after the events of Freddy vs Jason and sees Freddy learn of the Necronaumicon Ex Mortis and decides he will obtain it in order to gain ultimate power. However, we did get a rather epic follow up in 2007 with a great comic book mini series that saw the conflict grow to a three way battle between Freddy and Jason as well as Evil Dead’s dumba** monster slayer, Ashely Williams. The studio had a number of bids to produce a sequel but due to a lot of corporate bulls***, they never came to pass. The film did expectedly well at the box office, being the highest grossing film in the history of both franchises. Though the film at the end of the day was just your standard slasher flick, what made it so much fun to watch was the expertly done battles between the hockey masked Jason and the razor clawed Freddy. The film saw A Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday the 13th pit their respective slasher villains against each other in a no holds bar battle to the death. 2003 saw the release of one of the greatest monster mashes of all time: Freddy vs Jason.
